When will I get my contest time schedule and assigned room number?
Your teacher should receive the information approximately two weeks before the contest.
 
Are schedule or time changes allowed?

Any change of an entered selection after the original application has been submitted is allowed but, must be in the same category group as the original selection choice.

Time changes are NOT allowed, unless in the case of an emergency.  If the change request is approved by the IMA board,, the change will be made and the contestant will be charged a rescheduling fee of $20. 

 
Are page turners allowed?

Yes, page turners are allowed.

 

Am I allowed a warm up before I play my selection?

Contestants may warm up before beginning their selection, (i.e. a scale, arpeggio, chords, etc.).  It is best not to use any part of their contest selection as a warm up.

 

Where do I obtain the directions and map to the contest?

Directions to the contest are available on the first page of our website and also available form your teacher.

 

Can I use a photocopy of the music to be presented to the judge?

Contestants cannot use photocopies of published music that is currently available.

 

Can I video tape my child's performance?

The use of audio or video recorders is permitted to record your own performance or to record your students' performance.  You must have prior written permission to record any other contestant.  Audio or video recorders are instructional tools for your own personal use. Recordings will not be accepted as criterion regarding the judging.

Do duets have to be memorized?

No, duets do not need to be memorized.
